The short version
This site is operated by MajorPays LLC. MajorPays doesn't have user accounts, doesn't require sign-in, and doesn't store anything you upload on our servers — any institution CSV you upload to the "Search by department" tool is parsed entirely in your own browser and never sent anywhere. The data collection on this site comes from two places: Google AdSense, which may use cookies to show ads, and GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly visit counter that uses no cookies. Details below.
Information we collect
MajorPays itself does not collect, store, or sell any personal information. We do not require or offer account creation. Any data you type into a search box (a school name, a major, a career) is used only to filter information already loaded in your browser and is not transmitted to or logged by MajorPays.
Fonts and code libraries
To display the site, your browser loads the Inter typeface from Google Fonts and, on map pages, the d3 and topojson code libraries from the jsDelivr content network. Loading them means your browser contacts those providers’ servers, which can see your IP address and browser details under their own policies. MajorPays does not receive that information.
Visit statistics
To understand how many people use the site and which pages help, we use GoatCounter ↗, an open-source, privacy-friendly analytics service. It sets no cookies and does not track you across other websites. It records only aggregate details of a page view: the page visited, the referring site, your browser and screen size, and your country. It does not store your IP address or build a profile of you. When you use a button that downloads a file, such as a comparison table or a data file from the Downloads page, we also count that the download happened (the file name only, never its contents). Our hosting provider (Hostinger) also keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and operations.
Advertising and cookies
This site is monetized in part through Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings ↗, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info ↗. Children's privacy
MajorPays is intended for general audiences researching college majors and careers, including high school students. It is not directed to children under 13, and it has no accounts, messaging, comments or data-submission features that would collect personal information from them. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Advertising on the site is provided by Google AdSense; if you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian before using the site, and see the choices described below. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, contact us at founder@majorpays.com and we will delete it.
Your privacy choices and rights
MajorPays does not sell personal information and does not hold personal profiles of visitors. Advertising is the exception: Google AdSense, as a third party, may use cookies or similar technology to show ads. Where the law requires it (for example visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and certain U.S. states), Google presents its own privacy-choice message so you can accept, reject or manage ad-related cookies; you can change your choice later through that message or your browser settings. You can also turn off personalized ads at Google Ads Settings, opt out through optout.aboutads.info, or use a browser setting or extension that sends the Global Privacy Control signal. Because MajorPays does not keep accounts or profiles, there is usually nothing for us to access, correct or delete; if you wrote to us and want your email deleted, or you have a privacy question or request under a state or other privacy law, write to founder@majorpays.com and we will respond. We will not treat you differently for exercising a privacy right.
Email and server logs
If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply and to improve the site. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (including IP addresses) for security and operations, for a limited period set by that provider.
Community on Reddit
The site links to the MajorPays community on Reddit (r/MajorPays). Reddit is a separate service with its own privacy policy and rules; MajorPays does not receive your Reddit account details from the link. Posts you make there are public, are not official MajorPays statements, and should not include personal information.
Data sources
The wage, employment, program, and institution data shown on MajorPays comes from public U.S. government sources (O*NET, Bureau of Labor Statistics, NCES IPEDS, College Scorecard, DHS) and open map data (US Census Bureau TIGER/Line, via the us-atlas project).
