Pulled from public IPEDS Completions data (U.S. Dept. of Education, NCES) — degrees and certificates awarded per program, already aggregated. No student-level or private data is used or transmitted.
My institution isn't listed, or I want to use my own numbers
This file is read entirely on your own device — it is never uploaded to any server. Only aggregated program-level data belongs in this file (CIP code, program name, optional completion counts). Never include student names or any individually identifiable information.
Expected columns (in any order; header row required):
| CIPCode required | ProgramName | AnnualCompletions | Year required | Institution required | Institution ID required |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11.0701 | Computer Science | 42 | 2024 | Alma College | 168591 |
| 51.3801 | Registered Nursing | 88 | 2024 | Alma College | 168591 |
CIPCode, Year, Institution, and Institution ID are required on every row — a program name is looked
up automatically if you leave ProgramName out, and completion counts are optional but
power the same features. Repeat a CIP code with a different Year on each row to cover
several years in one file — this adds a "Viewing year" picker above the diagram, same as the six-year
picker above.
When Institution ID is a real IPEDS UnitID (the same directory the search box above
uses), that row's awards number is replaced with the official IPEDS completions count for that
institution, year, and CIP code, instead of trusting whatever the file says. An ID that isn't
recognized just falls back to your own number instead of failing the upload.

What it should be — national estimate
Programs → Occupation groups → Careers
Programs (CIP codes) crosswalk to 6-digit occupation groups (SOC), which each expand into more detailed O*NET careers. Only the link leaving a program is a real quantity (that program's completions, split across whatever it connects to). Group → career is a crosswalk relationship, not a flow of people — O*NET/NCES don't publish a headcount for that hop, so those links are drawn at a uniform width on purpose.
Data years: career details come from the O*NET 31.0 Database (2026); career wages are BLS OEWS (May 2025), which is not the same as graduate earnings; job growth and openings are BLS projections for 2025–2035; program completions are IPEDS (award years 2018-19 through 2023-24, the latest published).
